Calls and SMS in India are regulated far more tightly than email, under TRAI’s Telecom Commercial Communications Customer Preference Regulations (TCCCPR), 2018.
The DND registry
Subscribers can register their numbers as Do-Not-Disturb (fully or by category). Making unsolicited commercial calls to DND-registered numbers can get the calling number disconnected and repeat offenders blacklisted across operators.
What compliant telecalling looks like
- Scrub against DND before every campaign — the list changes daily.
- Register as a telemarketer on the DLT (Distributed Ledger Technology) platform of a telecom operator, with approved headers and consent templates for SMS.
- Call business lines where possible — B2B landlines and company board numbers are establishment data, not personal numbers.
- Respect timing rules — commercial calls are restricted to 9 AM–9 PM.
Why this matters for data buyers
A data vendor who sells you unscrubbed consumer mobile numbers is selling you liability. Prefer B2B datasets built from business registrations, and always run your own DND scrub before dialling.
